ABOUT
Alex Johnson is a NYC based Creative Director, Writer/Director/Producer and brand & communication strategist.
Alex started her career within the commercial & music video world (including Radical Media, Partizan, Rose Hackney Barber) in London before moving on to head up interactive initiatives at Sally Potter’s production company, Adventure Pictures.
Alongside devising tactics for independent feature film promotion & transmedia project development for Endemol, Channel 4 & the ENO, she conceived The Sp-ark Project, a social learning/creative archive platform, currently being used at the University of London.
She then joined interactive marketing agency Deep Focus in LA as a Strategist/Planner (clients: New Line, Universal, HBO, Random House, Vitamin Water, Havaianas, Sundance Channel & The N) guiding thinking on audience insight, branding and strategic approach across Creative, Publicity & Media departments.
She then worked with Seize The Media on Myspace/Hammer project Beyond The Rave on real-time audience behavioral analysis for their online film release/social game; consulted for the IFP on the organization’s planned rebrand; advised filmmaker Lance Hammer on integrated marketing initiatives for Ballast (best director, Sundance 08), consulted on future-forward product development for Massify, and worked with culture hacker/story architect Lance Weiler on expansion of the Workbook Project.
Alex then co-founded WBP Labs, a branded entertainment/original content agency (clients: Kohler, IKEA, Babelgum), building out staff and network; co-creating RADAR a web/mobile/event series about storytelling and creativity (now in its fourth season on Babelgum and nominated for both Streamy & Vimeo best original series awards, 2010); creating Inspired By Design, a sustainable design show for Kohler, and setting up Inside Design, a series with IKEA.
Following this Alex worked with the Verbal Identity and Strategy teams at Interbrand to initiate a new digital research discipline ‘Playback’, based on consumer & trends insights for brand management and creation. (Accounts: NCR, Susan G Komen, Kelloggs)
She currently works with Laird & Partners in a part-time Associate Creative Director role concepting original content, products & experiences (from video treatments to games, alternate reality experiences, product extensions, to guerilla and theatrical events, apps and websites) for cross-platform ad campaigns, launches & rebrands. Accounts worked on include: Tory Burch, Tommy Hilfiger, Rag & Bone, Pepe, Gilt Group (Park & Bond), David Yurman and Edun.
On an independent basis she is also currently working on a rebrand of the branded entertainment company Corra Films, developing a confessional storytelling project headed by actor Danny Glover, developing a transmedia project for the documentary Regina Likes to Fly (in conjunction with Livestrong), and is in the process of setting up a boutique agency.
